Delta 8 THC and why you will be seeing more of this cannabinoid

Delta 8 THC and why you will be seeing more of this cannabinoid

With over 100 Cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, it can be hard to keep track of them all.  Delta-9 THC is the cannabinoid that is usually in the spotlight.  Delta-9 THC is what is responsible for the psychoactive effect that most people feel when consuming cannabis.  Recently, Delta-8 THC has been coming to the forefront.

Naturally occuring Delta-8 THC, or D8 for short, can usually only be found at a concentration of no more than 1% in cannabis plants.  This is why it has been hard to gather information on this cannabinoid in the past.  Luckily, Delta-9 and Delta-8 are only one atomic bond apart, so Extractionists have been able to find ways to convert Delta-9 into Delta-8.

What does Delta 8 do?

On the medicinal side, D8 is best acts as an Antiemetic, Anxiolytic, Neuro Protectant, and Orexigenic.  In English, it is great at stimulating appetite, reducing anxiety, protecting nerve cells, and can help reduce naseau.  For the recreational user, D8 is reported to have about one-third of the psychoactive potential as traditional D9.

Why would you want to only get a third of your potential high?

For many cannabis users like myself, consuming cannabis helps them manage anxiety.  Even a single puff can have a world of change and set a completely better tone for the day.  However, for some, it is easy to get the stereotypical “couch locked” feeling and slow down.  With a third of the psychoactiveness, one dose of D8 can reduce any nerves or unsettled stomach, and still leave the consumer with a clear head.

1200mg of Delta-9 THC with 0 effects.

Since my first edible, I haven’t been able to feel any effects. I kept asking myself, do I have a high tolerance? Do I need a much higher dosage than the average person?  In the end even reaching as much as 1200mg of THC.  I started to learn that my body does not process cannabis like most people. With further research I found that a small percentage of cannabis users are like that too.  Our bodies don’t metabolize D9 THC as easily as others do.  This was disheartening to me, so I slowly started to stray away from the world of edibles.

When I saw this new cannabinoid in a tasty gummy, I figured I would give it a shot.  At the very least it would be a tasty snack.  I ate two and to my surprise I started to feel effects in about an hour.  The easiest and quickest way for me to explain it: it feels like CBD 2.0.  For myself, I got a nice, light body high and I felt calm and clear-headed.  In addition, I found it really helped stimulate my appetite in the morning.  I usually have issues eating the first few hours of the day whether I am hungry or not.  Not the case after taking some D8.

Delta 8 has the potential to help many people

D8 is perfect for the consumer that would like to feel good without being slowed down.  Like a day home with the kids, or a productive day of cleaning.  It can also curb the desire to smoke if you have a busy day out of the house.  The other weekend I was out doing errands and on my days off I’m usually one to smoke from the time I wake up until the time I fall asleep.  That day, I ate two D8 gummies to start my morning and as always I brought my vape pen with me just in case.  To my surprise, I found myself without the desire to smoke until around 4pm.  Knowing the way I usually am, I was shocked.

In a short span of time I have started to see Delta-8 products from many more companies due to Extractionists learning how to convert Delta-9 THC into Delta-8 THC.  Smokiez was the first I tried with their gummies but I have since seen butters, topicals, patches, and drinks from Mobius.  Crystal Clear has vape cartridges containing D8 and Honey Tree produces a wonderful edible/smokeable distillate that is strong with D8.  If you have weird tolerance issues like me, issues with appetite and nausea, or if you want a clear-headed high without feeling slow and lethargic give Delta-8 a shot.  Maybe this cannabinoid is just what you need.
